February 27th

Today in class we had to read a poem that was on America and how the country wasn’t really a free one with equality and justice. It would talk about how immigrants, poor white people, the young people, black people, and farmers weren’t treated equally like those who are of a higher social class stating how they have to face mental scars, physical scars, hardship, and touch situations.

February 23rd

Today in class we were handed a packet and a paper that had the poems we have read so far in the past week. In the packet we had to write down what the claim was, critical analysis, and an unanswered question that we had from the poem. We did the poem “I, Too” as a class and then once we were done with it we would do “Mother to Son” on our own getting fifteen minutes to finish the three parts to it and sharing it with the class so that we could see what other people wrote down

February 22nd

Today in class we read another poem that was called “Mother to Son” that talked about a mother giving her son advice to not give up on trying to reach his goals because if he does for even a moment it could completely stop him from reaching him causing him to give up. After we finished read and annotating the poem we had to write down a connection we had made to the poem and then complete 12 questions that were on the back of the poem but they had to be written on a separate sheet of paper

February 20th

Today in class we read a poem called Dream Deferred by Langston Hughes. The poem talked about how you can forget about a dream that you had that you really wanted to accomplish but never got to because of something they prevented you from doing it so that dream stays in the back of your mind and is with you everyday till someday you forget about it and live your life like normal. Once we finished annotating and reading the poem we had to fill out a paper with 9 boxes on our dream, how we’ll accomplish it, our 10 year plan, what could defer us from our dream, ways to prevent that from happening, tools needed for our dream, our plan b for the dream, and what we hope our legacy becomes

During the beginning of class we were given another black history month bell ringer. The person we got was Colin Powell who was the first African American who was Secretary of State. We then watched a video of Oprah going to a county in Georgia that was only white people who didn’t want any black people moving into their county saying they’ll make the place bad. We were then given three questions to answers on why they decided to self segregate themselves, why we should encourage diversity around the world, and what kind of community we want to live in. Afterwards we read two poems by Langston Hughes one called “I, Too” and another one “Refugee in America” while reading we also had to annotate the poems

In class when we walked in we noticed we had a sub who took role and then told us that we had an assignment left in canvas to finish up that day. The assignment was in common lit and it had six questions that were on chapter 8 of the Great Gatsby.
